I am new new yoga! What class should I attend?
We have a comprehensive guide for newbies; let us guide you to choosing your first yoga class.
What do I need to bring to class?
What to Wear
The most important thing is to wear clothing in which you can move comfortably (stretchy apparel, t-shirt, shorts, etc). In the studio you will be barefoot so the soles of your feet can grip the mat. In the winter, a long sleeved shirt and socks are recommended for the end of class when we relax in a reclined pose on our mats.
Water
Bring your water bottle to class; you can fill it up at our filtered water station. We also offer tea for after class refreshment.
Yoga Mat
Most students bring their own yoga mat, but we have mats in the studio that are available for you to use at no charge.
How early should I arrive for class?
You can arrive as early as 15 minutes before class begins. The time before class is a great opportunity to relax, unwind and prepare yourself for your yoga practice.
How often should I come to class?
Everybody is different. The number of times a week you practice yoga depends on many things including the other physical activities you engage in, your state of health, your intention, and your schedule. However many classes you choose to take, we do recommend that you set up a regular schedule week-to-week. This will allow you to witness a progression in your practice, and will allow your body and mind to become settled so you can achieve greater benefits from yoga.
The most important thing is that you listen to your body, and stay aware of the changes that your whole being will progress through while practicing yoga, both during class and outside the studio. If you are coming more than twice a week, you should consider a term membership for the best value.
Do I need to pre-register for class?
Yes. Before you come to class, we asked that you reserve your space in class. Our maximum capacity at this time is 17 participants, so it’s important that you know you will have a spot before coming to the studio. To reserve a class, start at our yoga class schedule and click on “Reserve” next to the class you want to attend.
Some classes run as pre-registered series, a mini-course in yoga, such as Yoga for Beginners. For these classes, you must register for the whole set of them. You can register online via our Workshops and Events page, or call us.
Are the rooms heated?
Our two studio rooms are at room temperature. Whenever possible, we open the windows to encourage fresh airflow.
Do you have showers?
No, Kushala Yoga does not have showers. However, the space has two change rooms and two washrooms.
Do you sell retail items?
Yes, our studio has a small retail section that carries an assortment of items including: yoga props (mats, blocks, bolsters, cushions, straps, blankets, dowels, sandbags), meditation cushions, wellness items (eye pillows, aromatherapy, candles, pit balm, soap, Joy-a-Toes), books, journals, leisure wear, and yoga wear.
