An Opportunity for Change
June 13, 2013Interlude: Ahimsa for Green Living
June 24, 2013Fiery Discipline
Sounds intense, yes? The third Niyama, Tapas, can be considered as discipline, fire, fiery discipline, austerity and patience. Whenever a practice is taken up, it takes discipline to keep it going. The May Challenge gave many an opportunity to do this. Each participant chose a specific challenge for themselves for the month.
Another way to understand tapas is to think of it as consistency. One of the highest disciplines is that of consistency: getting on the yoga mat every day, sitting on the meditation cushion every day, observing the antics of the mind every day, forgiving your mate or your child yet another time. If tapas is considered in this vein, then it becomes a more subtle practice, a practice that is concerned with the quality of life and relationships, not just with outlasting some
difficulty.

Sharing the Experience
Along with the challenge, we asked participants to write about their experience to be posted to the blog. Participants who were willing to do this were entered into a draw for a 2 month unlimited summer pass. You can find those posts below and congratulate all three for taking on the challenge, sharing it with us and receiving a gift for their willingness.
Thank you to the ladies who shared…
