October 17, 2012Ashtanga Vinaysa is an powerful yet meditative yoga practice where postures are sequenced together in an intentional series to purify, strengthen and balance the body and mind. Ashtanga Vinyasa draws on traditional elements of Hatha Yoga including Sun Salutations (surya namaskar), internal energy bonds (bandhas), breath control (pranayama), along with many familiar and some unique postures.
In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn:
The history and principles of Ashtanga Vinysasa Yoga
Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and their benefits
Foundations of the primary series postures, and modifications for your personal practice
How to harness your inner power through Bandhas (energy bonds) and their use in postures
Ujjayi breath, and its purpose in posture practice
followed by a full Primary Series practice (90 minutes). Suitable for students of all levels seeking to challenge themselves with a traditional and time-tested style of Hatha yoga practice.
