July 21, 2012The question is the answer
I’m pondering this lately and wondering if my purpose in life is to ask questions. Oh wait… isn’t the purpose of life to be happy? Or to find happiness? Or is it really the one with the most toys that wins? Is that happiness? Can you tell when I’m being facetious? See what I mean about the question asking though? ;)
The asking of the question is itself the answer. When we ask, “Who am I?” who we are is the process asking the question.
~Stephen Levine
But seriously, who are you?
How many answers have you come up with so far? Make a list. Start with the most obvious, physical parts of you and keep going. Then ask yourself which ones never change and who is making the list. Can you find the part of you that labels all the other parts? If it’s your mind, who is calling it your mind? You can practice this while on your mat as well. Notice how much you change from moment to moment, from posture to posture, from breath to breath. See if you can be with the sensations and what is happening and not just in your thoughts about what is happening. Experience each posture without a label or judgement and see what you find. Or notice how often that is possible.
Be the change
As I’ve contemplated more, the only guarantee I have about life and myself is that there is constant change. I am the awareness of that change. I am also that change. No wonder Ghandi said
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
Short and sweet. I’ll leave my rambling that way as well to make room for your own interpretations and contemplation. Tell me what you find alissa@kushala.ca
