Challenge Check-In Day #18
December 18, 2020Goodbye Suter Brook, Reflections and Photos
September 1, 2021The last day of class at Suter Brook is Friday August 27th, 2021.
We will open our new studio at 3032 St. Johns Street on Friday September 17th.
Your studio pass will be put on hold for 3 weeks.
Online classes (Zoom and our library) will be available during this time.
This August, we come to our 15 year milestone, and a turning point for the studio. Living in a world with COVID-19 has been transformative for everyone in unique ways. Patterns that used to work well have needed to be reestablished, new ways of coping and thriving have been created. At the studio, this has meant developing our online programs, and adjusting the ways we offer our classes to give you space and comfort to practice.
We are still here, while many other yoga studios (large and small) have closed their doors. This is because of your support in difficult times, and the federal and provincial governments financial assistance. As we move through the recovery process, we must find ways to sustain ourselves through a bumpy, but hopeful, future outlook. Our core intention is to be Kushala Yoga for decades to come.
This September we come to the end of our lease at Suter Brook, and we have been unable to negotiate a sustainable agreement with our landlord. Though it’s difficult to leave a place that has been a second home for many years, we are also confident that it is the relationships between us, our outstanding team of instructors, karma yogis, and the yoga itself, that makes Kushala what it is.
We are moving the studio to a nearby location on St. Johns Street, and will begin classes, workshops and teacher training there in mid-September. It is just the right size for our needs at this time; it’s also ground-level, with free parking available. This will be our main location for 2-3 years, while we await our brand new, long term home to be constructed…
We’ve come to realize that in order to thrive in the changing conditions of these times, we need to be our own landlords, and create a long term home for the studio and community. We have purchased a ground-level retail space in the new Clyde development on St Johns Street between Clearview and Moray, (you might know it as the development that has diverted traffic on St Johns for the past many months). While we impatiently await its completion, estimated to be midway through 2023, we will be planning the long term future of our studio.
One of the things we can be confident about is that we will be here as your yoga studio for years to come. There are changes ahead, we will continue to learn and grow together through them.
In September, this is what you can expect from us:
- An expanded class schedule, in person and online
- Workshops and special events will resume
- Yoga for Beginners courses will start in October
- Growing Online Yoga Library for home practice
- Our next 200-Hour Teacher Training program will begin in November 2021
